When I left hospital six weeks ago I could barely walk 100m before collapsing into a chair or bed. By the end of June I was up to daily, or at least alternate daily walks of 2km. As I previously enjoyed regular walks of 10 - 15km, this didn't seem like a big deal so I set myself a goal of adding one km to these daily walks each month - 3km walks by end July, 4km by end of August etc. - until I could walk 10km without needing resuscitation.
It seems I am ahead of schedule. Yesterday I went for a 5km, 1hr 8min walk. Not the longest or fastest walk on record but for me, yesterday, it felt like I'd just completed a marathon. Today I did the same, walking past old houses, grazing horses, through an olive grove and along the river; and all within 5km from my front door and back again.
For some reason carrying a camera helps me walk. The resultant photos may not amount to much but it sure feels good to be walking again.
