It’s often easy to forget how lucky some of us are. I live in a city of 1.5 million people and yet the small suburb I call home, just a 20 minute walk from the CBD is, thanks to the foresight of the city’s original surveyor, surrounded by parklands. One hundred metres from my front door are a few large paddocks where horses are agisted by local residents. On this the first day of autumn the horses were in the shade of another paddock as I looked across this summer-dry paddock towards the hills. Both I and the horses have much to be thankful for.
