The subtitle is not completely accurate. The first couple of images were taken yesterday but they did prompt me to spend this morning walking close to home, photographing some of the local sculptures. This afternoon, the images were processed, uploaded and a small book made ready for printing.
The sculptures were many, too many to photograph them all, and varied. There were memorials to kings, soldiers, sportsmen, pioneers, lost children, migrants and comedians. There were abstract sculptures and figures of fun. All were designed to convey a message, some clearly manifest, others more subtle.
Among the many not photographed were statues of the “great and mighty”, prominent figures from the past. Most were men although this bias is slowly being remedied.
